Langhurst Road, Chesterfield
One day in 1961, Mr Alan Ravey was taking his dog Spek for a walk along Langhurst Road, down by the stream and adjoining field. Whilst approaching Spek’s favourite tree, Mr Ravey noticed a woman standing nearby. The dog let out a tremendous yelp and ran off at full speed. The woman seemed to be looking back at Mr Ravey and then the figure just melted from view. He searched carefully around the tree but no-one was there. After he caught up with the dog, he found it was having a fit, having apparently been scared stiff by the ghost. Medical treatment was obtained for the dog but unfortunately the shock caused its death not long after.

Linacre Woods
One man was driving his motorbike through Linacre Woods when, for no apparent reason, his engine cut out. He found it impossible to restart and, simultaneously, he became aware of a terrible foreboding – a sense of evil that seemed to pervade the area. He therefore pushed his motorbike but as he did so, the oppression intensified. Once he was completely clear of the area, his motorbike started at the first attempt.

Ling Road, Walton
In two separate properties on this road, (two doors away from each other) a cat and a dog have been known to watch something travel around the perimeter of the ceiling of the sitting room. It is possible, of course, that they could simply be observing a small insect flying around. In one of the properties the owners and visitors have heard their name being called from an upstairs room but everyone is downstairs.
Lodge Farm, Palterton Lane, Sutton Scarsdale
In 1948, at Lodge Farm, one of the farmer’s sons returned home and as he was falling asleep around midnight, he heard footsteps and felt something touch his forehead. This experience could, conceivably, have been caused by a hypnogogic hallucination. However, on other occasions, members of the family heard the sound of footsteps upstairs when they were wide awake downstairs. The girls also heard footsteps in their bedroom and one of the girls was touched in bed.
An Italian prisoner of war, sleeping in the front room one night, was frightened by the constant turning of the front door handle and the door being flung open.
A relative of the farm family visited the farm on his motorbike one night and, taking a short cut across the fields, saw a man wearing old-fashioned leather leggings, a rain coat and a bowler hat standing by a gatepost. By the time the motor cyclist had reached the next gate post, the same man was already there, even though it would have been impossible for anyone to sprint that distance in that time.

Loundsley Green, Chesterfield
In 1993 a house at Loundsley Green experienced minor poltergeist phenomena, consisting of battery operated toy cars moving round the room without being switched on, the television switching itself on, etc.
